4. Preferences

You can customize FolderSync. To do that open the Songbird Add-On manager via "Tools|Add-Ons". Search the entry FolderSync, click at it and choose "Options". The FolderSync Preference Dialog will appear. Changes in the some sections will take effect after you re-opened FolderSync the next time, those are marked specially.

4.1 The Dialog

Use the Tabs to get to the different preferences, the sync tab contains three sub-tabs.

4.2 Sync

screen_options_eng_Sync.png

The sync tab is divided into three sub-categories, which you can access through the "Default preferences", "Profile preferences" and "Empty Tags" tabs. In the "Default preferences" you can change preferences belonging to the [Default]-Profile. At "Profile preferences" you can define user-defined profiles, if you want to do this, you can use the "+"-Button. The preferences belonging to the default profile and those belonging to the user defined profile are named identically and do the same. With the preferences within the Tab "Empty Tags" you can configure the way FolderSync handles Songs not containing requested metadata (tags). You can set a default value for every tag FolderSync supports (as %artist%, more information at 4.2.5), it will be used if the tag is not set.

4.2.1 Delete not needed Files and Directories

If you disable this option, FolderSync won't delete files.

4.2.2 Overwrite changed files

If this option is enabled, FolderSync will check via LastChanged-Entries in the filesystem if Source- and Destinationfiles are the identical. If there are different LastChanged-Values, FolderSync will replace the Destinationfile with the Sourcefile. So you can sync for example Tag-changes in the music files.

4.2.3 Write M3U-Playlists

If you enable this option FolderSync will write M3U-Playlists to the selected folder. They can be played by many mediaplayers and devices. Filename will be the name of the playlist with the suffix ".m3u".

In the textbox under this preference you can set a relative Path, where the playlist should be stored. (for example "../Playlists" would store the playlist in a folder named "Playlists" located one directory level above the target folder)

4.2.4 Auto-format filenames and path
If you enable this the sheme will take effect, see 4.2.4.
4.2.5 Filename-Scheme

Enter a scheme here. With a scheme you can auto-rename the filenames of songs depending on their tags in the Songbird Library. If you checked "Auto-format filenames and path", every song will be saved at the entered location (use "/" to mark subfolders) with the given name. Use %something% (possibilities described under the edit-field), for example %artist% and %track% to enter tags.

Example (Windows):
Folder "C:\temp";
Songs: "Song1" by "Interpret1", "Song2" by "Interpret1" and "Song3" by "Interpret2". All songs are MP3's.

The result:

Scheme
%artist%/%title%(%artist%) song_%title%
"Song1" by "Interpret1" C:\temp\Interpret1\Song1(Interpret1).mp3 C:\temp\song_Song1.mp3
"Song2" by "Interpret1" C:\temp\Interpret1\Song2(Interpret1).mp3 C:\temp\song_Song2.mp3
"Song3" by "Interpret2" C:\temp\Interpret2\Song3(Interpret2).mp3 C:\temp\song_Song3.mp3

 4.2.6 Format Track-Numbers

You can enter the number of digits every Track-Number should have in the text area in the bottom-right corner of the window. If a track-number has less digits, leading zeros will be inserted, so many players can better sort the files within a folder.

4.2.7 Write Album-Cover

FolderSync can write Album-Covers only if the Filename-Sheme is enabled (4.2.4).

4.3 M3U-Format

screen_options_eng_m3u.png

Preferences in this section will take effect when creating M3U-Playlists only (see 4.2.2).

4.3.1 Folder-Change-Character

In this textfield you can enter character(s) marking the change of a folder. Most users should use slash ("/"). Windows mostly tolerates slashes, but the native format is the backslash ("\").

4.3.2 Relative Paths start with .[Folder-Change Character]

If this option is not checked, relative paths won't be introduced with a relation to the current folder. For example (Folder-Change-Character is set to "/"):
The file "test.mp3" in the sub-folder "Dir" will be stored as "./Dir/test.mp3" if the option is enabled else it will be stored as "Dir/test.mp3".
Some Players need it the one way, others need the other way.

4.3.3 Use extended M3U-Format (integrate some Metadata)

You can configure if FolderSync writes Header and some Metadata into the M3U by enabling this option. If you disable it, FolderSync will write a simple List of filepaths to the M3U.

4.4 User Interface

screen_options_eng_ui.png

4.4.1 Activate one-click syncronisation of more than one playlist

This option will enable the "Sync All" button.

4.4.2 Show help-link

This option will show a Link to this manual in FolderSync's pane.

4.4.3 Show preference-button

This option will show a button to open the preference window in FolderSync's pane.

4.5 Expert

screen_options_eng_expert.png

In expert mode you can configure FolderSync's internal parameter, most users shouldn't change these preferences.

Love this add-on! BUT, my preferences panel has no OK or Cancel buttons so my settings are never saved! :-)
