Many people want the ratings to be written back to the file, for preserving them at a reimport of a library. There are some reasons why we did not implement this yet. The most important:
- When sharing files, other users have you rating on their file.
- WMP and iTunes use different algorithms, so they are not compatible to Songbird (YET).
Two reasons why they should be written back:
- If your library crashes, the ratings will be save
- If you have to reimport the library, the ratings will stay
If you want your ratings being written back to the file, just follow these steps:
- Launch Songbird
- Open a new tab (Ctrl + T)
- Type about:config
- Search the string "songbird.metadata.ratings.enableWriting"
- Double click on it to change its value to true
All ratings changed after this will be saved to the file.
