How to enable ratings written back to the file

Many people want the ratings to be written back to the file, for preserving them at a reimport of a library. There are some reasons why we did not implement this yet. The most important:

    • When sharing files, other users have you rating on their file.
    • WMP and iTunes use different algorithms, so they are not compatible to Songbird (YET).

Two reasons why they should be written back:
    • If your library crashes, the ratings will be save
    • If you have to reimport the library, the ratings will stay
If you want your ratings being written back to the file, just follow these steps:
    • Launch Songbird
    • Open a new tab (Ctrl + T)
    • Type about:config
    • Search the string "songbird.metadata.ratings.enableWriting"
    • Double click on it to change its value to true
All ratings changed after this will be saved to the file.

Ok, so that is a great solution for all your NEW ratings, but what about all your old ratings? How can you force Songbird to write old ratings to their respective files?
