Disclaimer: Follow these instructions at your own risk. Mucking with profiles can get messy.
Songbird uses the same profile mechanism as Firefox, you can find instructions here related to Firefox, but below is similar instructions customized for Songbird.
For Windows Users
Create a New Profile
First create a new profile.
- Click the Start button the task bar
- If you're using XP click the Run menu item.
- In the edit box or search box for Vista type Songbird.exe -p
- Click the Create Profile button.
- Click Next
- Enter a new Profile name and then click the Choose Folder button
- Choose the location where you would like your profile to go.
- Move your mouse over your old profile, it should display the location. You can skip the Locate Your Profile Folder if you note this.
- Select the new profile.
- Make sure the Don't Ask at Startup is checked if you want this new profile to be your default.
- Click the Start Songbird button.
- Close Songbird
Locate Your Profile Folder
The next thing you need to do is locate your old profile folder
Windows:
Each profile is stored on your hard drive in a profile folder. %APPDATA%\Songbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.Default User\
- (Windows Vista, XP, and 2000) %APPDATA% is shorthand for the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ folder (Windows Vista) or the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\ folder (Windows XP/2000), which depends on your Windows user account name.
Windows Vista
- Click the Windows Start button, and type %APPDATA%\Songbird\Profiles\ in the Start Search box near the bottom of the Start menu, without pressing Enter. A list of profiles will appear in the top left of the Start menu.
- Click on any of the profiles (e.g. xxxxxxxx.default) to open it with Windows Explorer
On Windows 2000 and XP
- Click the Windows Start button, and select Run....
- Type in %APPDATA%\Songbird\Profiles\ then click OK.
- Windows Explorer opens a folder containing your profiles.
- Double-click the profile folder you wish to open (e.g. the xxxxxxxx.default folder).
Copy Your Previous Profile to the New Profile
- Close Songbird if it's running
- Copy the entire contents of your old profile folder to the one you created above. This can be done from the command line with xcopy /E or using Explorer, the latter is probably the easiest.
- You can now delete your old profile if you want using the Profile Manager Songbird.exe -p
