Got a new 'pooter you want to transfer your library to? Worried about Songbird losing all your customizations in a bad crash? Well let's take care of that...
Important Note: It is recommended to back-up your full Songbird2 directory as described below. Not just your individual profile folder.
Locating Your Profile
WindowsThe artwork and other cache files associated with your profile are stored in AppData\Local\Songbird2. Crash reports, add-ons, library db files, preferences and all kinds of other important files are stored in AppData\Roaming\Songbird2. You'll want both, and you'll want to be sure you know which is which.
%APPDATA% in the Search box at the bottom of the Start menu, and press Enter.C:\Users\[you]\AppData\ in Windows Explorer.Run....%APPDATA% then click OK.C:\Documents and Settings\[you]\Application Data in Windows Explorer.
LinuxThe default location of the Songbird profile is~/.songbird2/profiles/.
/home/.songbird2 folder.View > Show Hidden Files if it isn't already checked. (On Ubuntu).songbird2. Your profile folders are within this folder.
Mac OS XThe default location of the Songbird profile is ~/Library/Application Support/Songbird2/.
/Library/Application Support/Songbird2/.
Once you have a hold of those precious files and folders, it's time to put them into action.
✓ This only works if you are moving your profile to the same Operating System and your media is located on the same drive or file location.
As previously mentioned, it is best if you backed up your full 'Songbird2' directory and move that folder to your new computer. If you did not, and just backed up your individual profile folder, follow the next steps:
You should now have your backed-up profile folder in hand. Using the steps above, move your new profile to the specified Profile folder, making sure to keep the same string of numbers and letters (/********.default/). Songbird won't recognize your library correctly if you modify the profile name. Now open 'profiles.ini', located in the root Songbird2 folder, and adjust the "Path" field to read the string of letters and numbers that your profile is.
Thanks Lukas!
