Managing song information and metadata

61_metadatareader.pngSong metadata is additional information about the song that gets stored with most digital audio formats. Information such as artist name, song title and album title can be stored as metadata.
Most songs that you download from the internet have this information already filled in, but in case some of your songs do not have it, or have mistakes you want to correct or missing information you want to add, you can edit metadata with Songbird.  The data is stored directly in the file using the id3 v2.4 standard. You can either edit each file individually or edit multiple files at once.  Songbird can read and write metadata to WAV, AIFF, ASF, MP3, M4A, and Vorbis.

    1. Right-click the song whose information you want to edit.
    2. Select View Metadata from the pop-up menu.
    3. Enter or remove the information you want in the Metadata Editor.
    4. Click OK to save the new information and close the editor.

The check boxes get automatically checked if you change a value. Every change will be written to the files if you click "ok" so if you are editing multiple files, don't be a bird brain, check your work before you click "ok"! If you have selected one file you can use the arrows at the left to navigate file by file through your library.
