Power User Preferences

This is a list of preferences that may be changed to modify songbird's default behavior for power users.

Please note that these features are not meant to be officially supported as part of the main product, they are listed here to keep track of them all and help maintain a Power Tools addon that will let power users change them. These preferences may go away at any point, with no prior warning.

Playlist Column Picker

  • songbird.columnpicker.allowSecondaryProperties (default: false)
Normally, Songbird only allows a subset of all the properties to appear in every playlist/library column picker. Other properties only appear if they are part of the default or current list of columns for that particular list/library. When this preference is set to true, Songbird shows all preferences that have a human readable name in every column picker throughout the system.
  • songbird.columnpicker.allowUnlocalizedSecondaryProperties (default: false)
This preference, when set to true, will make Songbird also show the non human readable preferences in every column picker if songbird.columnpicker.allowSecondaryProperties has also been set to true.

Playlist Commands

  • songbird.commands.enableRescanItem (default: false)
When enabled, this preference allows the "Rescan Metadata" playlist command to appear in the context menu for media items.

Smart Playlists

  • songbird.smartplaylisteditor.enableAllProperties (default: false)
By default, Songbird only shows a subset of properties in the Smart Playlist editor. When this preference is set to true, all properties can be used by the user to create Smart Playlist rules.

Track Metadata Editor

  •  songbird.trackeditor.enableAdvancedTab (default: false)
Setting this preference to true will show an "Advanced" tab in the Track Metadata Editor, which will let the user view and change more preferences.

Metadata Writer

  •  songbird.metadata.ratings.enableWriting (default: false)
By default, Songbird only saves ratings in its internal database. Setting this preference to true will write ratings back into the files themselves.

Buffer Size for HTTP Streams

  •  songbird.mediacore.gstreamer.buffer.size (default: 131072) (value is in bytes, this is 128 kilobytes)

Songbird will buffer 128 kB of data before starting playback of an http stream. A smaller number in this preference means that Songbird will spend less time gathering data before playback.  The smaller this number is, the more likely you are to hear skipping during playback.  The higher this number is, the longer you will wait for playback to start.

Rescan Media Items

  • songbird.commands.enableRescanItem (default: false)

Songbird can rescan existing media items to reset any metadata fields in the file to the values found there. This is useful if your metadata import job cancelled for some reason or if you like to edit your files using an external tag editor.

Database Memory Usage

  • songbird.dbengine.cacheSize etc.

As of version 1.1 Songbird offers advanced preferences for controlling how much memory is used displaying your library. Learn more here.
